You’ve probably heard of some of the fathers of Bossa Nova, but maybe you’ve never heard of one of its mothers: Alaíde Costa.
Due to racial and gender prejudice, she was excluded from the movement. So much so that in 1962, when the Bossa Nova showcase
took place in New York to present the genre to the world, she wasn’t invited.
But even so, Alaíde never backed down and kept moving forward.
In 2023, a new edition of that same show was held to celebrate 60 years of Bossa Nova — and guess what? Alaíde wasn’t going to be invited once again.
Johnnie Walker, the brand that celebrates people’s journeys, couldn’t let that historical mistake happen again.
